A burglar was busted after dropping his cellphone near the crime scene, San Mateo police say.
Detectives traced texts sent to the phone back to a woman who knows the prime suspect in the San Mateo burglary on May 27.
The cops contacted her and pretended to be good Samaritans who just wanted to return a lost phone to its owner. When they met with the woman on Wednesday, the suspect was with her.
Jason Davis, 34, of Walnut Creek, allegedly attempted to flee the detectives, but was swiftly arrested and charged with the burglary in the 1500 block of Jasmine Street, police said.
Jewelry and other items stolen during the heist have not been recovered.
“Detectives suspect that Davis sold or traded the property prior to the arrest,” police said.
Davis left behind his cellphone “in his hurry to exit the residence,” police said.
