A man was assaulted and his son’s phone stolen on a Muni bus in the Mission by a couple of young thugs armed with brass knuckles on Tuesday, police said today.

The 54-year-old man and his 17-year-old son were on a bus near 21st and Mission streets about 6 p.m. when the man saw two teenage boys looking into his son’s bag, police said. The son was asleep and unaware of what was going on.

The man confronted the teens and the son woke up and joined in the confrontation, police said. A struggle ensued and the father was hit in the head with brass knuckles.

The two suspects fled the scene and it was then they realized the son’s phone was missing.

The man was taken to the hospital for cuts to his head and ear, police said. His injuries were not life threatening.

No arrests have been made.
