Boy robbed of iPhone on 38-Geary

Too bad there’s no app to warn bus passengers that gun-toting goons are near.

A 16-year-old boy was robbed of his iPhone on Aug. 20 on the 38-Geary Muni bus line, police said.

The victim was checking the time on his phone when one of two suspects revealed the handle of a handgun and demanded the phone, police said. The victim complied.

The suspects hopped off the bus and fled east on Geary, police said. No arrests have been made.

It was one of several bus muggings in recent weeks, including two separate incidents on Geneva Avenue that occurred two days apart, police said. One of the robberies also involved the theft of a phone, cops said.

Overall crimes dropped on Muni during the first six months this year due to a new police strategy, officials said.

However, due to a rash of robberies, top brass have been adamantly encouraging residents to keep their phones in their pockets while traveling on foot or via transit in The City.
