A 15-year-old boy from Nevada County has been arrested on murder charges in connection with the fatal stabbing last week of 20-year-old Cameron Myers in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood.
The boy, who is not being identified because he is a minor, was detained by police in Nevada County about 2 a.m. Sunday, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.
Police locally and in Nevada County remain tight-lipped about the investigation and what led to the arrest.
Myers, who friends say lived in Auburn and had few ties to The City, was found near Innes Avenue and Arelious Walker Drive, about a block from India Basin Shoreline Park, about 1:45 a.m. May 15.
After the killing, investigators gathered information that led them to Nevada County, where they conducted interviews that resulted in the arrest, Esparza said. The boy is being held in Nevada County’s juvenile detention facility while San Francisco police work to extradite him to The City.
Still, Esparza added, the investigation remains open and active.
Neighbors heard Myers scream and called 911. He was found with multiple stab wounds at the southeast corner of 800 Innes Ave., which is an apartment complex.
Myers’ family and friends in Auburn are stunned by the death. He reportedly didn’t have a criminal record and was scheduled to join the military after turning 21 this September. Myers was described as a happy, playful and kind person.
