A man was struck in the head with a metal pipe because he refused to buy the attacker booze at Eighth and Market streets early Friday, police said.

The thirsty thug became insanely jealous that the 47-year-old victim was drinking alcohol at the intersection about 1 a.m. The 50-year-old asked the victim to give him money for booze but was rejected, Sgt. Dennis Toomer said.

In response, Toomer said, “the suspect hit him in the head with a metal pipe twice.”

The suspect fled but police know who he is and are searching for him, Toomer said. The victim suffered injuries that were not life threatening, he said.
