Board renames plaza in Jane Warner’s honor

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved renaming the plaza at the intersection of 17th, Castro and Market streets as Jane Warner Plaza.

The legislation renaming the plaza was introduced by Supervisor Bevan Dufty.

Warner was a well-known and much-liked Patrol Special Officer, who began her career in 1993. She passed away in May.

“Office Jane Warner will be missed by the countless residents and businesses she protected in the Castro, Noe Valley, Glen Park and the Mission, as well as thousands of other people she touched through the years,” the legislation says.

A plaque will be installed to designate the naming.

“We need to, in memory of Jane , revisit the issue of what a Patrol Special should be and the role of what community policing should be in our city,” Supervisor David Campos said. “There is more work to be done.”
