Board committee OKs $500,000 wheelchair ramp

After years of debate, political intrigue and a one-time estimate of about $1 million, the installation of a wheelchair ramp in the historic Board of Supervisors Chambers at City Hall is about to become to reality.

On Wednesday, the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee approved borrowing about $500,000 for the project in a 3-0 vote. The proposal is now headed to the full board where it is likely to be approved Tuesday.

If approved, the ramp will be installed by August.
