Bay Area Bike Share ridership numbers have steadily increased to more than 100,000 trips within four months of the regional pilot program’s launch, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Graphs made available at www.bayareabikeshare.com/system-data on Monday show the growing number of trips taken by annual and casual members each day in The City and throughout the system.

The pilot program in San Francisco, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View and San Jose began Aug. 29 and ridership queries “have increased over the last couple of months, so we put this together fairly quickly,” said Aaron Richardson, spokesman for the district.

Providing ridership data was factored into the contract with Alta Bicycle Share, which is running the bike-share pilot. The public’s interest helped “fast-track” the publishing of the data, Richardson said.

Through Nov. 30, which is the latest day available on the graphs, San Francisco logged 73,002 total trips, 1,953 annual members and 9,488 casual members. Systemwide, 81,019 total trips, 3,202 annual members and 10,837 casual members were recorded. December data will be available on the site after Jan. 15, Richardson said.

“We think it’s a successful pilot and we think bike sharing continues to show great potential for improving air quality in the region,” he said.

A pilot expansion this year would boost numbers to 1,000 bicycles and 100 stations systemwide, with 500 and 50, respectively, in place in The City.
