Bicyclist killed in collision; another strikes pedestrian

A 30-year-old female bicyclist was killed during a collision with a big-rig this morning in the South of Market district, police said. Another biker struck and injured a pedestrian later in the day.

In the fatal incident, a truck was trying to make a right turn at Sixth and Folsom streets about 7 a.m. when it collided with the cyclist, Sgt. Dennis Toomer said. The woman was pronounced dead after being taken to San Francisco General Hospital. Her name has not been released as of Wednesday evening.

Three intersections that were closed following the crash have since reopened, Toomer said.

Meanwhile, a bicyclist hit a pedestrian on John F. Kennedy Drive near the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.

Neither the bicyclist nor the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries, Officer Tracy Turner said.
