All 56 members of BART’s various citizen advisory committees could soon pocket a little extra cash to cover their travel expenses.
The transit agency has five different citizen advisory councils, covering issues from bike accessibility to police oversight. Currently, only members of the BART Accessibility Task Force and the Earthquake Safety Program Citizens’ Oversight Committee get reimbursed for attending their respective meetings.
On Thursday, BART’s Board of Directors will vote on adopting a proposal to give $15 to every member for attending regular meetings. The payment could be a normal stipend, or in the form of value added to a Clipper card.
If the board approves the proposal, the new reimbursement policy is expected to cost the agency $7,890 annually. The agency has an annual budget of roughly $580 million.
