How hot is the race in Rep. Barney Frank’s Massachusetts district becoming? Hot enough that he’s putting out more flags. Here is his latest fundraising email:
Today, the Associated Press reported that a right-wing, pro-life group will target me for my position on reproductive choice. In a mail piece sent to residents of the district I represent, the organization called for my defeat because of my high ratings from Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice groups.
My opponent, Sean Bielat, supports the reversal of Roe v. Wade. When asked by a reporter whether he would allow abortion in the case of rape or incest, he refused to answer. On a questionnaire by the Massachusetts Citizens for Life, he agreed with every position taken by that organization.
Mr. Bielat has boasted that his campaign will benefit from “independent” expenditures from outside organizations. In addition to the pro-life group which has now vowed to defeat me, my opponent has the support of a Nevada PAC which backs Tea Party candidates and which plans to spend $200,000 in Massachusetts. He also has the allegiance of the Tea Party Express, which has announced that I am one of its top targets in the entire nation.
I take these developments extremely seriously, not only because of the threat to my candidacy, but because of the dangers they pose to the values we share.
You can help me prevent the right-wing from turning back the clock on reproductive rights. I will be grateful for your support.
