Bad medicine: 12 women die from tainted injections at India hospital 

WHAT: Intravenous glucose fluid contaminated with bacteria and fungus is blamed for the deaths of 12 pregnant women at a government hospital in India.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Doctors are battling to save the lives of at least four more women who fell critically ill after being given the fluid in the maternity ward.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: India banned new purchases from the fluid’s manufacturer and seeks a national recall of the product. Criminal charges are pending.
