A “thrilled” Mayor Gavin Newsom has received warm wishes from across the state congratulating him and wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom on the news they are expecting their second child.
The mayor and his actress wife are expecting a son in June, the mayor’s chief spokesman, Tony Winnicker, said Monday.
The Newsoms’ first child, daughter Montana, was born in September 2009.
The mayor and first lady “are thrilled that they will soon welcome Montana’s younger brother into the family,” Winnicker said.
“They sincerely appreciate all the good wishes they’ve received from so many people across the state,” he said.
The couple married in July 2008. They met on a blind date at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in October 2006 and were engaged in Hawaii the weekend before New Year’s Day in 2008.
The baby is the second major change in store for the family in the new year.
Newsom is scheduled to be sworn in as California lieutenant governor in early January. He has said he will continue to live in San Francisco while holding the state office.
Judy Siebel, Siebel Newsom’s mother, told The San Francisco Examiner that the family is thrilled by the baby news.
“This is going to be a new addition to a long line of girls,” she said. “We are just absolutely delighted.”
