At least one motorist injured in hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 in Redwood City

At least one motorist was injured in a hit-and-run crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Redwood City on Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Just after 5:30 a.m., CHP responded to a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101, just north of Whipple Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

CHP officers arrived at the scene and found a red car that had spun sideways, blocking the slow lane of the highway, Bartlett said.

Barlett said that a full-sized Ford had crashed into the red car, sustaining major damage.

Although both cars remained on the scene, the accident is being considered a hit-and-run because one of the motorists involved fled on foot following the crash, Barlett said.

At least one person was transported to a local hospital, but the extent of their injuries remains unknown, according to Bartlett.

All lanes of the highway were cleared just after 6 a.m., Bartlett said.
