A's closer Grant Balfour was officially named an American League All-Star on Sunday, replacing teammate Bartolo Colon who became inactive for the Midsummer Classic because he started Sunday.

Balfour, 35, the first-ever Australian pitcher named an All-Star, has a 1.67 ERA with 25 saves in 39 appearances. He has 38 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings and has allowed 27 hits and 13 walks. He is the only major league closer without a blown save this year.

Balfour also earns a $50,000 bonus for being named to the team.
