Arrest made in vicious Cow Hollow slashing

Joseph Huelbig, 22, of Belmont was arrested last weekend in connection with a vicious and unprovoked stabbing in Cow Hollow on Aug. 4, police said.

Huelbig is facing attempted murder charges in connection with a drunken slashing in the area of Union and Buchanan streets about 1 a.m. that left a 20-year-old man with severe lacerations on his arms, Officer Albie Esparza said Friday.

Huelbig is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said.

Police have released little about their investigation. The initial report of the incident stated a brawl escalated between the suspect and victim outside a bar in the 3000 block of Buchanan Street.

Huelbig allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, causing injuries to the victim that required surgery, Esparza said.

Ten days after the incident, police released video surveillance images of a suspect they believe is Huelbig.
