A San Francisco hospital patient was scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges he brutally raped a quadriplegic patient during his stay.
Irving Jovel, 49, was accused last month of sexually assaulting the incapacitated patient — a 52-year-old man with limited ability to communicate — in the victim’s room at San Francisco General Hospital on June 5, prosecutors said. The victim was reportedly discovered by his wife six hours after the attack.
Jovel is charged with four felonies, including forced sodomy and forced digital penetration. Hospital CEO Sue Currin said in a written statement that the hospital has not had a similar incident before.
