A 26-year-old man was beaten unconscious during a fight in the Candlestick Park parking lot Saturday shortly after the kickoff of the Cal-Fresno State Battle By The Bay college football game, according to police.

Officers were called at about 4 p.m. and found the victim on the ground, unconscious and bleeding, police said. Several people pointed to the suspect, another 26-year-old man, nearby and police arrested him.

Witnesses told police that rival groups of fans had been yelling back and forth when the fight broke out, police said. The victim was hospitalized with a broken nose and lacerations to the back of the head.

This comes after 49ers officials promised to increase security at Candlestick in response to two shootings, restroom assaults and melees both inside and outside the 49ers-Raiders preseason game on Aug. 20.
