Amy Winehouse’s father told mourners at her funeral that far from being out of control with her addiction, she was actually on an upswing in her final days.
“She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence,” Mitch Winehouse recalled in his eulogy, according to the U.K.’s Sun. “She said, ‘Dad, I’ve had enough of drinking. I can’t stand the look on your and the family’s faces any more.’ She was the happiest she has been for years.”
The tragic singer, who died Saturday at 27 in her London home, was remembered as having undergone a “fantastic recovery” and “found love” with director beau Reg Traviss.
“He helped her with her problems, and Amy was looking forward to their future together,” Mitch said at his daughter’s Tuesday service.
Wow, we totally didn’t see this one com— oh, wait, no! Now that we think about it, we predicted it from day one: Jesse James and Kat Von D have called off their engagement.
“I am no longer with Jesse,” the “L.A. Ink” star tweeted, “and out of respect for him, his family, and myself, that’s all the info I’d like to share.”
Her less reticent ex-beau told People magazine it was the distance between his Austin, Texas, home and Kat’s Los Angeles base that did them in — slightly ironic, considering the alleged reason he originally moved his kids down South from L.A. was to be closer to ex-wife Sandra Bullock.
“I’m so sad because I really love [Kat],” the celebiker lamented. “The distance between us was just too much.”
The controversial couple started dating about a year ago, shortly after his latest divorce was finalized, and became engaged in January.

Speaking of broken engagements, why did Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler call off theirs? The reality star and the Chicago Bears quarterback reportedly planned to wed next spring, but instead parted ways — just a week after their engagement party.
“She got dumped,” a source bluntly told People. “She’s absolutely devastated. She can’t believe this is happening.”
“She was planning her dream wedding, the date was set, the location — everything was set,” confided the source. “She’s in shock that the dream wedding she was planning is going to end this way.”
But perhaps it’s for the best.
“Jay Cutler was beyond controlling and didn’t really like Kristin to go out,” a pal of the “Hills” star told the tab. “When she did go out, he called all the time and demanded to know exactly where she was going and who she was with.”
“He made her choose between him and being friends with a lot of her girlfriends. I’m not surprised it didn’t last,” opined the friend of the couple of 10 months.
If this is true, it sounds like Kristin is better off.
