Former Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier has hired a new manager to take the helm of her campaign for San Francisco mayor, one whose latest job was advocating medical marijuana in Nevada.
Dave Schwartz is head of medical marijuana reform group Sensible Nevada, according to Las Vegas City Life’s CityBlog. As an out-of-towner unfamiliar with the grind of San Francisco politics, Schwartz appears to have been briefed, “I’ve had it described to me as a sprint with multiple marathons in between,” he told the blog.
A spokesman for Alioto-Pier, Sterling Clifford, noted that Schwartz isn’t just a pot man. He has run other campaigns, such as the 2006 presidential campaign of Sen. Chris Dodd.
“That’s his most recent resume item,” Clifford said of the medical-marijuana advocacy. “But he’s got a long resume.”
While some may see bringing on a new manager midstream as a sign of trouble, Clifford called it a move to “escalate things as the real campaign season begins.”
