  • Undercover police nabbed a trio of pickpockets after one of them lifted a Muni passenger's wallet on the 38-Geary bus Monday.

Three would-be pickpockets had their plans foiled by undercover cops on a 38-Geary Muni bus Monday.

The bust happened after an undercover officer noticed suspect Miguel Lucana acting suspiciously when he boarded the bus at Geary and Powell streets at 3 p.m., said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

During the ride, Lucana moved to the front of the bus, where he met up with two other men. When the threesome got off at Geary and Fillmore, one officer asked passengers if they were missing anything, and a man said his wallet had been stolen, according to Andraychak.

Police later detained the trio of suspected pickpockets and recovered a wallet, from which nothing was missing.

Lucana, 43, and his two accomplices, 34-year-old Antonio Martinez and 39-year-old Juan Gonzales, were arrested and charged with conspiracy and grand theft from a person, Andraychak said. Lucana was hit with an additional charge of possession of stolen property.
