Alejandro Murguia named San Francisco's poet laureate

The Bayview district resident was named The City’s sixth poet laureate. Murguia has twice received the American Book Award, for “Southern Front” and “This War Called Love: Nine Stories.” He most recently published “Native Tongue.” Murguia is a professor of Latino studies at San Francisco State University. He organized the Flor y Canto en el Barrio poetry festivals in 2008 and 2011.
