Airbnb to sponsor SF Pride

Airbnb announced today that it would serve as the Grand Sponsor of San Francisco's 2014 Pride celebration and parade.

The San Francisco-based company has been under scrutiny lately, as Board of Supervisors President David Chiu proposed new legislation to clamp down on the online short-term housing service.

As Pride's sponsor, Airbnb will provide financial support, participate in the parade and rally volunteers for the event.

"The Airbnb team is thrilled to support the efforts of SF Pride in our hometown," said Chip Conley, Head of Global Hospitality at Airbnb in a statement. "We are joining together with SF Pride to celebrate and strengthen the LGBT community locally as well as welcome guests from around the world to the amazing city of San Francisco."

This year's Pride Grand Marshals include Jewlyes Gutierrez, a transgender teen from Hercules who faced battery charges after fighting back against school bullies. The charges against Gutierrez were dropped earlier this month.

2014's Pride celebration marks the 44th anniversary of the event, which is the largest LGBT festival in the nation.
