Accident cleanup fee finally approved

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Tuesday in a second and final vote a new fee that the Fire Department will charge to motorists who are at fault in accidents to help pay for the cost of cleaning up debris and fuel.

The new fee, part of Mayor Gavin Newsom’s proposed $6.5 billion city and county budget, is expected to generate $626,000 for the Fire Department in the current fiscal year.
