We put together a team, pack a survival kit (flashlights, city map, pens, paper, cell phones, layers of clothing), divvy up the clues and plan the most efficient route. The feeling of accomplishment when we solve a clue is indescribable.

The de Young tower has an incredible view from the Farallons to Mt. Diablo, and the cafe serves great food and wine. Who doesn’t love the penguins, butterflies, living roof and Amazon flooded forest at the Academy?

We start at the Huntington Hotel so we only have to walk downhill. We visit the Fairmont, Ritz, St. Francis and Four Seasons to see their holiday decorations, Palace Hotel for their gingerbread houses, and Hyatt Embarcadero for their train. Dinner at the Slanted Door or Beldon Place completes the evening.
