Re: “Letters: Hamas is enemy, not Israel

@Gil Stein: Imagine your home being taken over and you and your family either slaughtered off or dispossessed. Imagine having NO ONE to stand up for you. Imagine being told that the deaths of your minor children is a 'representative victory over symbols.".
Imagine acting like the very people your grandparents were oppressed and exterminated by.
Finally, imagine what's going to happen to the 'state' of israel when America finally gets feed up with the brutality, the warmongering and the utter refusal to accept Middle East political reality and says 'You're on your own.''
And very soon, you won't have to imagine it.

Re: “Letters: Hamas is enemy, not Israel

Water Shortage and Racism–cousins?

I am still proud to say I was born and raised in California–both ends of the state!
I can say these things about California that are incontestable: it is a weird place,
a beautiful place, a state overwhelmed with illegals, a state filled with geological and
physical beauty, perhaps the greatest congregation of intelligent people, liberal
people and the dumbest politicians on the planet–all “co-existing.”

We have the neatest and most successful and thus, famous entertainers. We have
world renowned universities. We have the richest people in the world living
in California.

Is there any negative about this wondrous state? You bet! Among other things, we
have water idiocy. Yes, water idiocy. California is experiencing a drought. That is
a fact. Is it the end of the end? Is the state going to implode and will everyone
die because of the drought? NO–only the horrendously stupid people will be
harmed by the drought.

For those people who live in East Europe, Asia, Oceania and Central and South America,
they are not familiar with California–where it is or anything else. They can’t yell
at or to Californians, HEY: YOU live next to the biggest body of water on earth!
NEXT TO IT. IT lies on your west side. 500+ miles of unlimited water! Salt water
but water never the less. Also, California does have Mt. Whitney and other mountains
that have snow 365–providing great amounts of drinkable water!

Further fact; salt water MAY NOT be drunk as it is. With either reverse osmosis,
or other filtration or desalinization or other systems that cost between nothing and
near nothing [not according to politicians and marine biologists who must save
some microscopic organisms that live in the water.]

Oddly enough, Carlsbad, near San Diego and other cities are cranking up monster
desalination plants, plants 10x larger than needed [they have to make big plants to
demand huge amounts of money from the state and federal governments and from
outside investors.]

ONE could go to mechanical engineers and ask them to make drawings that would
create 100 or even 1,000 desalination buildings that are smaller than the size of a car–
that work 24 hours a day and that suck in water and that are powered by photo-voltaic
and wind [fans]–thus, costing NOTHING–after the purchase and installation of
the cells and fans.

But instead of doing these things, politicians prefer using the old civil war approach
and call everyone a Nig......who is not on “their side” or fining residents “x”
dollars for watering their plants. This demonstrates that some politicians have no
formal education and wish to “bang their drum slowly.” OR, “the sky is falling.” Sad.

Re: “Letters: Budget shift hurts The City

The screwed up priorities of Supervisor Avalos, who proposes cutting funding for road repair is one reason why taxpayers should Vote NO on the November transportation bond. Our city leaders keep siphoning money away from transit and passing bonds to make up for the shortfall. Here in San Francisco, we pay some of the highest property, sales, income, school district, and city taxes in the country. We shouldn’t be asked to pay even more.

In 2003 - Proposition K generated roughly 2.5 BILLION (over a 30 year period) for "20 programs such as street resurfacing, signs and signals, traffic calming, and transit enhancements.

In 2007 - Proposition A, another ballot measure generated ANOTHER $31 million in revenue.

In 2011 - Proposition B the Road Repaving & Street Safety Bond generated another $248 million for pedestrian, bicycle, & transit projects.

Exactly how many times are we supposed to pay for fixing the streets? Hold our elected leaders accountable and Vote NO on the transportation bond!

Re: “Letters: Scrutinizing SFMTA leader

@sfparkripoff: you're fundamentally correct that the merging of Department of Parking & Traffic along with Muni was a bad idea but your suggestion to allow the supervisors to take control of the SFMTA is not the answer.

The Board of Supervisors don't have a clue either and are going to simply continue the popular practice of reducing traffic lanes, removing parking spaces, traffic calming signals to 11 mph, create more bulbouts, all at the inconvenience and expense of the Muni. The Transportation Authority Board consists of the eleven members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, who act as Transportation Authority Commissioners. Commissioner John Avalos is Chair of the Transportation Authority Board. Commissioner Scott Wiener is Vice Chair.

The SFMTA run by Ed Reiskin is merely an extension of the Transportation Authority Board and the vast majority of the supervisors agree with the current policies of the SFMTA.

Re: “Letters: Scrutinizing SFMTA leader

As a voting Democrat I am appalled by the reckless spending that is being done by the SFMTA. A good example is the $4.5 Million dollars that was spent to widen the sidewalks in the Castro? This multi-million dollar re-design has narrowed the street down to two lanes and created gridlock in both directions. Does anyone think that this will improve traveling time on this MUNI route? How does slowing down street traffic to build pedestrian plazas put Transit First? I drove Down Castro on Saturday morning at it was already backed up with traffic at 11AM.

1. Every time a bus stops - traffic stops.
2. Someone gets out a car or a cab - traffic stops.
3. Someone parks their car - traffic stops
4. Police pulls someone over - traffic stops.

You can’t blame motorists for traffic congestion that has been engineered by the city. Traffic congestion happens once or twice a day. Narrowing city streets creates 24 hour delays in traffic. These expensive and wasteful projects have made our streets less efficient and MORE DANGEROUS for pedestrians, cyclists, and first responders. How does a fire truck or an ambulance get though if cars are stopped at a red light further up the street? How about all of the people who take Castro street to Noe Valley? Castro is not a dangerous street (unless you count the cyclist who WILLFULLY mowed down an elderly pedestrian last year). The Supervisors need to take control of the SFMTA before they bankrupt the city.
