An 89-year-old woman had her purse snatched in front of her Mission District home Friday morning, police said.

The heartless thief reportedly ran up and snatched the purse as the woman opened the gate to her home on Mission Street near 19th Street about 8 a.m.

The thief, described as a black man in his late 20s standing 5-foot-9, 150 pounds and wearing black clothing, said nothing to the woman before the robbery, Officer Albie Esparza said.

The purse contained the woman's ID, social security card and cash. The suspect, described as a man in his late 20s, fled the scene on foot and there has been no arrest, police said Monday. The woman was not injured during the robbery.
