  • Officers arrived at a San Mateo apartment building and found a 76-year-old woman with a stab wound.

A 76-year-old woman was stabbed in San Mateo Monday afternoon following an argument with a male family member.

The stabbing was reported at 51 W Fourth Avenue at 3:35 p.m., police said. Officers reportedly found the woman lying on the ground outside a second-floor apartment. The suspect was standing next to her and taken into custody.

The woman was transported to a trauma center, where she was in stable condition Monday night.

The identities of the suspect and victim are being withheld, and the motive remains under investigation, police said.

"It appears at this early stage of the investigation that there was a family argument just outside the apartment that led to the stabbing," police said.
