71-year-old woman critically injured in Western Addition robbery

  • A woman was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries she sustained during a robbery early Wednesday morning.

A 71-year-old woman was seriously injured in a purse robbery on her way to church in the Western Addition early Wednesday morning, police Sgt. Eric O'Neal said.

The victim was in the vicinity of McAllister and Webster streets about 5:30 a.m. when a man attempted to steal her purse. She struggled to hold onto it and the heartless thug punched her in the eye causing serious injuries, according to police.

The suspect fled with the purse and has not been found as of Thursday afternoon.

The victim is in the hospital with critical injuries including an eye contusion, lacerations to her face and bleeding on the brain, according to police.
