The 49ers signed wide receiver Kassim Osgood to a one-year contract and placed linebacker Nick Moody on injured reserve-designated for return, the team announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-5 Osgood was with the 49ers during the offseason and training camp before he was released on Aug. 31. He has made his mark in the NFL on special teams, earning two All-Pro and three Pro Bowl selections while playing in 152 games during his 10-year career. In addition to 122 special-teams tackles, Osgood also has 44 career receptions for 749 yards and five touchdowns.
Osgood came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers, where he spent seven years before going to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010 and 2011.
Moody will not be eligible to practice with the team for at least six weeks and cannot be activated for a minimum of eight weeks.
Boldin rewarded: Niners receiver Anquan Boldin won the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week award for his 13-catch, 208-yard performance against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in his San Francisco debut. The 208 yards were the second-most Boldin has compiled in a game in his career, trailing just the 217-yard output in produced in his NFL debut for the Arizona Cardinals in 2003.
James hopes to play: 49ers running back LaMichael James, nursing a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, said he expects to practice today and hopes to play Sunday. "I want to be out there," he said.
James was initially hurt in the team's preseason finale against the San Diego Chargers on Aug. 29. James was inactive for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
