19-year-old man shot in the back in the Bayview

Police are investigating a possible gang shooting early Sunday in The City’s Bayview district, police said.

Officers were called to the unit block of Harbor Road at 9:12 a.m., where they found the victim, a 19-year-old man, police spokesman Sgt. Michael Andraychak said. The San Francisco resident was taken by ambulance to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The shooting victim told officers that an unknown armed man approached him while he was standing outside, and when he ran, the suspect shot him in the back and fled, according to Andraychak.

There was no immediate description of the suspect, and no arrests have been made.

The Gang Task Force is investigating, Andraychak said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411.
