17 youths referred to ICE have re-offended

The head of the Juvenile Probation Department, William Siffermann, this week said that since Mayor Gavin Newsom changed The City’s policy towards reporting undocumented youths who commit felonies, the department has reported 107 youths to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Several youths have returned from their home country to San Francisco to re-offend, as The Examiner reported in February. Siffermann said that though 107 youths had been reported, the department actually notified ICE 125 times.

Apparently, 17 of the youths re-offended, some of them after returning from their home country and others who were not deported but re-offended in San Francisco.
