13-year-old boy shot, killed in Oakland

A 13-year-old boy was killed in a shooting in Oakland on Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

The shooting was reported at 9:23 p.m. in the 6100 block of Bancroft Avenue.

Police arrived to find the boy suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, police spokesman Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Paramedics tried to revive the boy but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the boy was walking with another teen when a gunman approached them and began firing, Thomason said.

The motive for the shooting has not been determined.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Police Department’s homicide unit at (510) 238-3821.
